Northside High breaks ground on new auditorium

Northside High School broke ground on a new auditorium this morning.

The ground breaking ceremony featured performances from the Northside Band and Northside Singers, as well as remarks from principal James Wilson, interim superintendent John Phillips and school board members John Wells, James Walker and Phillip Schley.

Due to financial reasons, the school was built without an auditorium when it was completed in 2002.

The new auditorium will cost the district $8 million and open in 10 to 12 months. It is expected to have 800 seats, a sloping floor, lobby, ticket office, concession area, restrooms, stage, dressing rooms, shop/prop/storage and production lighting.

"With such a fine building, the possibilities are endless," said student Olivia Greene during the ceremony.
